THE BASICS

Inditex is a global level group; our activity is carried worldwide and our processes have implications in numerous fields (economic, social and environmental). Aware of this dimension, we work to combine our economic growth with respect for the different social settings and protecting the environment.

Inditex is firmly committed to the environment

This vision of Inditex's environmental commitment has been translated into several initiatives and projects that have allowed us to build and consolidate an efficient environmental management system adapted to the demands of our business model. This allows us to guarantee that our activities and facilities do not have an impact on biodiversity, or on protected or recovered habitats, nor do they affect land adjacent to protected natural spaces or protected species included on the red list of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

Our most ambitious project has been to make our store model ecoefficient:

Uterqüe stores are ecoefficient We have developed a new store model that combines environmental principles and best practice to achieve a more sustainable store, therefore guaranteeing greater environmental and cost efficiency throughout the store life-cycle as well as reducing CO2 emissions.

The main actions undertaken to achieve this are:

  • LIGHTING

We have highly efficient lights, both in-store and in window displays, which reduce electricity consumption.

We efficiently sectorise the lighting of the rooms, enabling lighting to be differentiated by area according to the work carried out (cleaning, loading and unloading, etc.).

  • AIR CONDITIONING
We have efficient heating/cooling systems with free-cooling, with automatic temperature regulation systems and sectorised programming depending on the time of year, maintaining the temperature of the premises constant at all times.
  • MATERIALS

We use certified wood (FSC/PEFC), which guarantees that it comes from sustainable forests.

The paint and varnishes used in the stores are organic and environmentally friendly.

  • WATER

We use more efficient mechanisms, such as taps with automatic closure and flow regulation or double flush toilets.

We have also reduced the flow and pressure in sinks, toilets and showers.

  • REUSING PACKAGING AND WRAPPING
We try to reuse as much wrapping as possible. When it is not possible to reuse it, it is managed by an authorised manager.
  • PAPER / PLASTIC BAGS
Our stores have FSC-PEFC endorsed paper bags (certificate that guarantees sustainable forest management) and oxo-biodegrabale plastic bags (with d2w™ additive that ensures the plastic is 100% biodegradable).
  • ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING FOR STAFF

We provide environmental training in our new staff welcome manuals, and we transmit the chain's environmental commitment to all our staff.

We have environmental messages that raise awareness on caring for the environment.
